Janice Tompkins was raised in the Rogue Valley on land that has been in her family for over 150 years. She has worked, raised her family, taught art and painted in this same area.

She has won awards for her art, including an award of merit and the coveted Gold Medallion Award from the Oregon Pastel Society.

Janice paints "en plein air" and in her studio located in Grants Pass where she also offers her classes.

Artist Statement:
Being raised in the Rogue Valley all of my life, I have seen all of the changes that have happened to my beautiful Rogue Valley, but the memories of a quieter and softer life are buried deep in my soul.

For me art takes two roles. First it answers that person that is deep inside, second each of my paintings are a tribute to that subject. The exploration of one's boundaries is what makes me breathe.

Every artist expresses their own viewpoint. Personal expression is something that everyone possesses, how they go about doing so differs for each individual.

My goal is to evoke an emotion of peace and quiet, I want the viewer to come away with a sense of the emotions.
