The pristine region of Trinity County in Northern California offers a rich source of subject matter for American Artist Debee L. Holland-Olson. Focusing on the sublime beauty of the landscape while featuring skillful handling of light and atmospheric effects, this thirty year veteran of plein air painting enjoys the beauty in and around her home town of Weaverville, California.

Hopping fences, walking trails and 4-wheeling into isolated areas, she finds herself overwhelmed by inspiration. Working in a variety of mediums, oil, pastel, gouache, and watercolor, she develops the moment and allows the experience to set the mood of her landscape painting.

In a relationship of private process, she often returns to the same site over and over as each visit brings a new physical presence and color condition working in plein air. Holland-Olson landscapes accentuates the physical properties of the regional topography as the focal point of the composition but the mood of her experience is set with an incredible play of clear light in nature.

Her most recent paintings have been centered on the dramatic landscapes of Northern California and the Pacific Coast. She engages in exploring the gap between the actual landscape of inspiration and the painting of the landscape, the gap between nature and art. As she internalizes the conditions viewed on site, she develops a new focal point, in which the aspects meet and form something greater, involving the viewer and oneself into a timeless landscape.
